How to Live in New York City
DEC. 20, 2010
By RYAN O’CONNELL
Move here when you’re 18 or 22, maybe even 24. Come from somewhere else-the north, south, west, Xanadu- and come to realize that everyone living in New York is a transplant. Even the ones who grew up on the Upper East Side end up moving into a place downtown, which, as you’ll soon discover, is like moving to a different...
by far the best of its kind. →
next time i’m in church, please no photos.
sometimes i really just need to sit down and recognize the opportunities i’ve been given and truly be thankful for them. my future consists of a semester in paris, having my own apartment in nyc, hopefully adopting a cat. i’m pretty fuckin thankful.
life in 1404:
everytime i open the freezer, at least three different bags of vegetables come flying at me.
i can say confidently i feel information can touch me much deeper now than it did when i was younger; i remember barely reacting when one of my grandmother’s died (i wasn’t even really that close to her) and never cried but now if i received that same information it would’ve been different. i recognize a different worth in people that i did when i was younger. a ha! i have...
today in the shower i was thinking about how much of a mind-blowing effect text messaging can have on a relationship. for those seeking, text messages can become a pandora’s box of intricacies and emotions—i know girls (and myself) who look for the hidden meaning behind something a text message says. well yes, that’s what it says on the screen, but what do you think it really...

there’s something so much more tangible in new york city, more so than anywhere else i’ve visited. it’s the bite of the air. i feel like new york city has a way of creeping up on you. you feel so prepared as you step out of your apartment and new york city just..is. it’s unpredictable.
i miss watching sex and the city. it’s taken on an entirely new meaning for me,...
i’m back in new york city. i welcomed the pollution back into my lungs.
it’s actually pathetic how much animal planet i’ve watched this break, i can’t help it. animal cops is addicting as hell. seriously.
holy fuck this blog post had me reeling.
he gets a bit preachy at the end though, just overlook it for the time being.
things recently go ogled:
-hooters restaurant, which yields a massive amount at 1, 490, 000 hits while hooters objectifying women results in 1, 790, 000. wait, what? i triple checked my sources. i.e. me. but seriously, what? the only reason i bring it up is because i’m having major qualms over whether i should try the wings i’ve heard so much about or potentially disobey my feminist...
things recently googled:
-lion king lyrics, “circle of life”, specifically for the introduction song. you know, the one everyone makes up words to. they surprisingly have actual words…weird.
-the dog known as the puggle turns out to be a total sweetheart, pug and beagle mix. i like beagles because theyre a more muscular small dog breed but i heard they bark a lot. and are...
